Why I Knit

My grandmother taught me to knit when I was 6 years old. I had Rheumatic Fever during the first grade of elementary school and had to spend my recess sitting on the bench. I would sit there and knit. I remember the sweaters and sleepers my grandmother made and I wanted to be like her. She was my first mentor in many ways. I did not knit for many years and came back to the craft when I found out I was going to be a grandmother. My first project was a baby blanket for my grandson and I returned to the basic pattern she had taught me, basketweave.

This was my first basketweave blanket! I used a Sea Foam Green and Cream colored yarn and size 6 (USA) needles. The pattern is from Luluknits and can be found at found at lulu-knits.blogspot.com.

I have since made many of these blankets and gifts them as gifts. I add a little care tag and tie a ribbon around the blanket. Here are a few more examples.

My grandson, Lucas on the second blanket I made him because of course I thought needed a blue blanket in addition to the first one. These are a great size for newborns for use in their carseat and stroller. I then started making matching hats that I will describe further in a future blog.
I think it is pretty in pink.
Gray and blue has been a popular color combination in the gifts I have made over the last two years.
